Repair of barrier at Park Road

The metal barrier has been replaced at Park Road, outside the Doublet, in the last week. An accident resulted in damage to the barrier at this location.

I am very gratefully that the new barrier is in place as it supports road safety at a busy junction in the Woodlands area.

Cycle parking in Woodside

Today, on a walkabout of the Woodside area, I was delighted to find new cycle parking facilities at local council buildings including a primary school and supported accommodation.

The cycle parking will ensure that anyone using bikes to and from these council buildings will be guaranteed bike security. Bike thefts are still common place and this investment will prevent the loss of valuable bikes.

Cycle Challenge

Yesterday, I took part in a 20-mile cycle trip from Glasgow to Balloch in support of a month of cycling activity organised by Glasgow City Council.

Lowering of kerbs in Woodside

Currently, there are improvements to pavements throughout the Woodside area. Within Garriochmill Way, there are several pavements being lowered to increase accessibility and make it easier for people to get around by bike or on foot.

This investment is carried out in response to requests from residents and hopefully, these changes will encourage more residents to cycle or walk around the Woodside area.

Weeding the Alazea Border

Today, I joined a group of volunteers to support weeding and planting at the Azalea border in Kelvingrove Park. New Alazeas provided by the Council were planted in to gaps within the border.

I look forward to further gardening with volunteers at the Azalea Border during the summer months.

Glasgow's May Day 2018

Today, I joined hundreds of trade unionists and social justice campaigners in George Square to take part in the Glasgow Trades Council's May Day march and rally. The focus of the event was support for Equality, specifically women's equality on the 100th anniversary for women's right to vote.

At the rally, there was a call for support of the Repeal of the 8th Amendment in Republic of Ireland's Referendum on 25th May. The Abortion Rights Campaign and coalition of pro-choice groups in Ireland are gathering support to repeal the 8th Amendment to the Constitution of the Republic of Ireland.
