Road safety concerns at University Avenue

There are ongoing road safety concerns for pedestrians when they are crossing at University Avenue due to speeding vehicles, illegal parking and vehicles going through red lights.

It has been requested that this area is redesigned to slow down vehicles and prioritise pedestrians and cyclists, especially 600 children attending the local primary school and nursery.

Flash flooding on Byres Road

On Friday 16th June, there was a heavy thunderstorm which caused flash flooding. I observed a river running down Byres Road at its peak.

I am very concerned about the risk of some businesses being flooded during these heavy thunderstorms.

Information on flood risk can be found on the website of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA):

Upgraded traffic signal on Maryhill Road

This month, the pedestrian crossing and traffic signals on Maryhill Road at the Maryhill Fire Station have been upgraded by the council. This investment supports road safety improvements in the area.

The crossing is well used  by students walking between Murano Student Village and the University of Glasgow. This upgrade will also benefit families in the catchment area of the North Kelvinside Primary. Some children will walk over this crossing on their way to and from the school each day.

Resurfaced pavement at Queen Margaret Drive

This week, the resurfacing of the pavement using tarmac has been completed at Queen Margaret Drive between Fergus Drive and Oban Drive. Residents and businesses have been asking for repairs to the pavement for many years. This work ensures that the area is safer for pedestrians.

The pavement improvements have been finished ahead of the Queen Margaret Drive Street Festival held on 25th June, between midday to 5pm. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this happen including the contractors and council staff.
