1852 classical villa at 10 Great George Street

There is ongoing concern about the condition of the classical villa located at the corner of Great George Street and Bank Street. This villa, formerly Bloomfield Cottage, is one of a pair on Great George Street. The left villa contains 10 Great George Street and 63 Bank Street, and the right villa contains 2 and 4 Great George Street.

B Listed Building at risk at 10 Great George Street

This building is significant heritage within the Glasgow West Conservation Area. It has been left in a state of disrepair by the owners. If the current owners do not want to look after this building, it should be put up for sale to be restored.

Progress of Byres Road Streetscape Works

This month, I enjoyed spending time in the Byres Road and its lanes. There is progress in the streetscape works taking place from Partick Cross to University Avenue.

University Staff's long-running dispute over pay

On Tuesday 19th September, I stood in solidarity with University of Glasgow's staff on strike for fair pay deal. Striking is always the last resort. The last thing that staff want to do is harm students' education.

From speaking with staff, it is clear that they have experienced a massive real terms pay cut relative to inflation over the last 14 years. Due to the cost of living crisis and increased bills, they are unable to live on the money offered by employers.

Tree felling at Wyndford Flats

Yesterday, I was contacted about the felling of trees within the Wyndford Housing Estate. Residents was shocked by the cutting down of several trees at Invershin Drive between 2-5pm on Wednesday 6th September. Today, I visited to check on the trees.

Heras fencing surrounding 120 Wyndford Road and where 3 Lime trees felled.

In May 2023, I visited and took photos of these 3 Lime trees.

The felling of these trees has taken place when the proposal for demolition of the 4 Wyndford flats (151, 171, 191 and 120 Wyndford Road) is subject to a Judicial Review.

This is a Judicial Review of a decision by Glasgow City Council that an Environmental Impact Assessment is not required for the proposed demolition.

I would not expect any site works to be appropriate whilst the outcome of the Judicial Review is awaited.
