Spring flowers within the University of Glasgow

During my daily walks for exercise as part of the Covid-19 Lockdown, I have appreciated the local architecture and heritage of the University's Campus. I have noticed the flowering plants in the front gardens of many buildings which are enhancing the appearance of the area.

This gardening is increasing the support for biodiversity and creating pollinator pathways across the University. Whilst the lockdown continues, I expect the streets around the University to remain very quiet and peaceful places for my walkabouts. 

New bollards installed to improve pedestrian safety

Between South Woodside Road and Henderson Street, new bollards have been installed to prevent cars driving on the footpath. This will improve the safety of pedestrians in the area.

Cars have been seen using this footpath as a shortcut and this is no longer possible due to the new bollards.

Out of Use Green Gym at Kelvinbridge

The gym equipment located at Kelvinbridge cannot be used during the Covid-19 Lockdown. Along with playparks, outdoor gym equipment is closed off to reduce the spread of the virus.

The gym equipment has been taped off and warning signs have been installed. Please ensure that this equipment is not used as part of efforts to protect the NHS and save lives.

Spring Blossoms in Woodlands

This week, on my local walk, I enjoyed the blossoms and flowers in the planters on West Princes Street. The community planters are a special feature of the area.

The majority of planter are located on West Princes Street but there is a wooden planter on Montague Street, too.They are made of concrete or wood, and are maintained by volunteers.

The planters are very much appreciated by residents and people moving through the area. They are brightening up people's lives during the Covid-19 lockdown. 

My surgeries cancelled due to Covid-19 Outbreak

From Tuesday 16th March, I cancelled my regular surgeries at Woodside Library, The Albany Centre, St. Charles Primary and Hillhead Library due to the Covid-19 Outbreak. Currently, I am working from home and can respond to enquiries by email or phone only. 

Name plates for back lanes in Woodlands

In recent weeks, name plates have been located at the entrances to private back lanes across Woodlands. This is a significant development undertaken by the Woodlands and Park Community Council, supported by Friends of Glasgow West and the Council.

The names given to the lanes are associated with neighbouring streets. This should help residents to report ongoing issues such as graffiti, parking, flytipping and anti-social behaviour in each lane. Hopefully, as a result, more owners will take an interest in enhancing the appearance of back lanes with gates, plants and community arts projects.

New recycling facilities at Cedar Street, Woodside.

I am supporting the development of new recycling facilities at the multi-storey flats on Cedar Street. Impressive posters to encourage recycling have been provided by school children.

The posters have been displayed in the flats for the benefit of the local residents. There is ongoing work to complete the refurbishment of the flats including recycling facilities and  enhancement of the local environment.
