A resident has taken action to discourage littering by creating an informative poster to stop people throwing away cigarette litter and this is on display at the railings next to the River Kelvin.
Cigarette Butt Litter poster at the riverbank.
It is estimated that 122 tonnes of cigarette ends are dropped everyday across the UK (that’s
about 200 million of them), with an estimated 4.5 trillion cigarette
butts dropped worldwide every year. Local authorities have highlighted that the advent of the smoking ban has seen a marked increase in the number of cigarette ends discarded on our
pavements and streets.
